Before I was struck with the idea to do pet portraits for real, I had only done two dogs, both in mosaic tile. I decided I needed a picture of the perfect dog to paint in oils. Enter Fisher–the sweetest dog in Alexandria, VA.
Fisher belongs to my friend Lisa. Prior to meeting Fisher, I wasn't big on Weimaraners (due to a childhood memory, I won't bore you with the details). Well, after spending a weekend at Lisa's house and hanging out with Fisher, I was converted to a Weim fan (now I appreciate William Wegman's work even more)! I took some pictures of Fisher that weekend, one of which was the inspiration for my first dog painting.
I held on to this painting for months. Waiting for the paint to dry, waiting to scan it, waiting to apply temporary varnish.....I think I was also reluctant to let it go. But yesterday I finally wrapped it up and shipped it to Lisa. It was time. Hee hee.
WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.
PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.
