WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.

PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.

they can show me in the world.” ~ Samuel Johnson

One day this past spring, a sweet Yellow Lab came wandering up the driveway to greet my sister. Dogs love my sister, so that part wasn't surprising; however, the dog seemed to come from out of nowhere and she wore absolutely no identification. I seized the opportunity to photograph her, as I photograph every dog I possibly can. We played with her for a bit but were left with a conundrum: where does this dog belong? It infuriates me when dogs bear no identification at all. For a split second I considered bringing her to my boyfriend and yelling, "Surprise!" since he wants a Yellow Lab. But my conscience kicked back in. We asked a neighbor who was walking his dog if he knew anyone in the area with a Yellow Lab. He only knew of one residence, but sure enough that's where this dog belonged. Upon returning her, we learned her name is Cindy. I found this especially ironic, as my sister's name is Cynthia.

I ended up with some great shots of Miss Cindy, one of which was the inspiration for this painting. It is available in my Etsy shop.
