Who doesn't love a Pug? Seriously. They are SO stinkin' cute. I couldn't wait to paint one, but I needed the PERFECT photo to work from (since, sadly, I don't know any Pugs personally). Lucky for me, I'm a high school teacher so between my colleagues and students, I know many dog owners.
Enter Kaitlin, a wonderful student. This little blondie is sweet, funny, and seemingly meek. Until she opens her mouth to sing. Then she blows you away with a voice like Etta James, and the soul to match. Well, at some point last year I discovered that Kaitlin owns Pugs. I asked her for a picture and the next day she gave me several. My favorite pic inspired this painting (I'm a sucker for a curled tongue!). I'm pretty sure his name is Pugsly, so that is the working title of this painting. I'll have to confirm that with Kaitlin......HA! Nope. I just learned his name is Mugsey. Oops!
Thank you, Kaitlin! You'll get a print of this painting when school starts in...GASP!...a month.
WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.
PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.
