WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.

PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.

they can show me in the world.” ~ Samuel Johnson

Regis

Meet Regis the Basset Hound. This painting was a long time coming. I donated a custom pet portrait to a pet-related charity event over a year ago. The winner of that auction was Sandy, who has rescued many Basset Hounds. I hadn't heard from Sandy for a while, and when I finally did she wanted to "regift" the portrait to another auction. How generous of her to almost give up the painting she won! I had to gently convince her to have her own pet portrait done, and she agreed. Out of all her dogs, Sandy chose Regis, her "heart dog" for the portrait. And here he is.

When Sandy first met Regis, he was sitting amongst her iris plants. I love her how-we-met story, and I happen to love irises, so I had to use iris leaves as the background. That was a nice change-of-pace for me.

Thank you, Sandy, for your interest in my work, for being such an advocate for dogs, for supporting a great cause, and for your kind words when you saw the finished portrait. Enjoy!
