WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.

PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.

they can show me in the world.” ~ Samuel Johnson

Sarge, Cooper, and balance

30 in 30: Phase 2 Weeks 5 and 6: Sarge and Cooper
OK, so I'm not actually pumping out a finished portrait within a week, but almost. Each portrait is at least begun in its allocated week; it just isn't always finished in the same week. This is largely due to the fact that I'm working on four holiday commissions, one of which has three dogs on one canvas! Well, and also the little thing called my full-time job. Ha ha....Today, someone referred to me as balanced, which I take as a huge compliment, but I don't totally agree. I work very hard to strive for balance–-as a full-time teacher, part-time artist, wife, dog mom, daughter, sister, friend, homemaker–-but I still feel like a hot mess! In fact, "balance" was my One Little Word for 2008. And its synonym, "harmony," was my word for 2009. I'm getting there...

As for these gorgeous dogs, Sarge the English Bulldog belongs to my friend and former co-worker, Theresa. Cooper the Shiloh Shepherd belongs to my friend Jill's friend Jen (say that ten times fast!). Thanks, ladies, for contributing to my 30 in 30 project. It was a pleasure to paint your pups!

Coming soon: my first pastel pet portrait!

UPDATE: The English Bulldog painting (top photo) is available for sale right here.
