My first PASTEL pet portrait! Meet Terry, the terrier mix that belongs to my friend Kelly. I just loved the photo she supplied me, and that fur really lent itself to pastel. It's a medium I used a lot when I was much younger, but not recently. I've had a lot of success teaching pastel lessons to my art students, but I wasn't so confident in my own pastel ability. As a result, this portrait took me forEVER. I'm happy with the result, and I hope Kelly is, too. Thank you, Kelly, for supporting my project!
I've got so many paintings in various stages of done-ness, it's crazy! I'll be posting them all within the next two weeks. Now that Terry is done, I'm no longer behind on my 30 in 30 project. I'm actually ahead, with all of the partially-done pieces. If I follow my plan, I'll be able to take a break from artmaking around the 17th, relax and enjoy the holidays, and pick back up again with the doggies on the 11th of January. I've been burning the candle at both ends—art teacher by day, painter by night—and have been sick for two weeks now. I need a break!
WOOF! Thank you for visiting i heart dogs studio, the home of pet portraits lovingly painted by me, Christine Humphries Throckmorton. Since 2007, I have created custom pet portraits, prints, cards, and more, all featuring lovable canines (and the occasional feline). Scroll down, take a look around, click away. You'll see a wide variety of pet portraits, and get to know a bit about the girl behind the canvas.
PLEASE NOTE: Now that I have a toddler, I am no longer accepting commissions. For now, I am shelving the paintbrushes and just enjoying being MOM. I have a variety of original paintings, prints, and cards available in my shop, however, and there is a lot of dog art to peruse in the pages of this here blog. Enjoy.
